We have delivered Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs) as transport systems to production sites and distribution centers. In the field related to transportation and logistics, it is necessary to meet the demands from the market such as measure against the decrease in the number of workers and the immediate response to the various demands of customers. In addition, due to COVID-19 pandemic occurred since 2020, it is necessary to revise the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) such as measures against infectious diseases at production sites. At present, it is difficult to do the work by remote work at manufacturing and distribution sites, and people are moving things while avoiding “3Cs” (closed spaces, crowded places, and close-contact settings).
This special issue introduces an example of building a completely unmanned transfer system by an AGV equipped with an automatic transfer device (such as “collaborative robot”, “lifter” or “side fork unit” ). Through such products, we work on solving above-mentioned social issues.
